Today, the Afghan parliament only approved seven of the
people from the list Vice-President Khalili submitted to
them on January 9th. The following seven Ministers
were approved today:

- Minister of Hajj and Islamic Affairs: Mohammad Yousuf Neyazi
- Minister of Economy: Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal

After the vast majority of President Karzai's
initial cabinet nominees were
rejected by the Afghan Parliament, President Karzai picked
new nominees and and they were presented to the Lower House
of Parliament by Vice-President Karim Khalili. Once again,
Parliament will vote.

Mohammad Qasim Fahim, the First Vice
President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, on Saturday,
December 19, 2009 introduced the new cabinet ministers to
the Afghan Parliament as follows:

Media reports say that Rangin Dadfar
Spanta will remain in the post of Foreign Minister until
early 2010. According to reports, Karzai has said he will
submit a nomination for this position after an
international conference on Afghanistan to be held in
London in late January. Karzai is also seeking approval
from Parliament for the creation of a Ministry for
Martyred and Disabled Affairs.
Per the Afghan constitution, the members
will need to be approved by Parliament. Also, on the 19th of December, the new
Spokesperson to the President of Islamic Republic of
Afghanistan Waheed Omar officially took office.
