Fazal (Fazel) Hadi Muslimyar is the current head of the Meshrano Jirga.
Fazal Hadi Muslimyar was born in 1969 in Nangahar Province. He studied Law and Islamic Studies at the University of Jalalabad, for which he earned a Bachelor’s degree. During the Soviet invasion, Muslimyar worked as a deputy in the police headquarters of Nangarhar, as well as the head of the provincial council of Nangarhar. In 2009, he became a senator in the Meshrano Jirga, or upper house of Parliament. After serving as deputy chairman of Meshrano Jirga, he was elected as chairman on January 29, 2011, a position he still has today. His term has been marked by his outspoken-ness in matters concerning the United States’ relationship with Afghanistan.
