Farhang was a famous Afghan politician and historian. His greatest work was a two volume history book, entitled “Afghanistan in the last five centuries”. Farhang attended the Istiqlal Lycée in Kabul, was employed in the Bank-i Milli and in 1949 became a member of the City Council and Deputy Mayor of Kabul. From 1951 to 1952 he published the newspaper Watan (homeland). In 1933 he was held in prison by the regime of Sardar Mohammed Hashim Khan . From 1952 to 1956 he was held in prison by the regime of Mohammed Sahir Shah . In 1964 he was appointed a member of the Loja Jirga , where he served as a substitute member for the fourth constituency of Kabul. In 1965 he became chairman of the legislative committee. From 1972 to 1974 he was ambassador to Belgrade . In February 1980, he became a counselor to Babrak Karmal . He left Afghanistan in 1981 and moved to the U.S., where he died of a heart attack in 1990.
