Nashenas is an Afghan singer, and is one of the oldest surviving musicians from Afghanistan.
Nashenas was born Sadiq Fitrat Habibi in Kandahar, in 1935. He lived most of his life in Kabul, before going to study Pashto Literature at Moscow State University. When he returned to Afghanistan, Nashenas started singing in the early 1950’s. He typically sang ghazals in Dari, Pashto, and sometimes even Urdu. He had a huge fan base within the Pashtun communities inside and outside of Afghanistan. He has been living outside of Afghanistan for the past few decades, though no one knows exactly where (people speculate that he lives in London, England). Nashenas held his last tour in 2004, putting on concerts in California, New York, Washington D.C, and parts of Canada.
