Sayed Jamaluddin Afghani was an Islamic scholar who worked towards Muslim unity, modernization, and stressed resistance against European colonialism. He was also an adviser to many Muslim rulers of his time, and even today, his ideas are very influential. Afghani was born in 1838 in Asadabad, Kunar. He died in 1897. In late 1944, his remains were taken to Afghanistan and laid to rest in Kabul near Aliabad, a mausoleum was erected for him.
