Afghanistan adds four new national parks!

On Tuesday, June 9, 2020, Afghanistan’s First Vice President, Amrullah Saleh, together with the head of the Afghanistan’s National Environmental Protection Agency, Shah Zaman Maiwani officially declared these four sites as protected national parks:

  • Forests of eastern Nuristan province
  • Standing waters of eastern Ghazni
  • Darqad District of northern Takhar province
  • Imam Sahib District of northern Kunduz province

Who is Ahmad Zahir?

Ahmad Zahir (احمد ظاهر) was an Afghan singer, songwriter, composer, and musician.

Born on June 14th 1946, Ahmad Zahir is probably the most famous celebrity of Afghanistan- often referred to as “the Elvis Presley of Afghanistan” not just because of his sideburns, good looks and charisma, both on and off-stage, but also because, like Elvis, he came into a music industry, and left it completely changed forever.

Though his career was short, his discography and influence over Afghan music and the hearts of Afghans the world over has been timeless.

Who is Rashid Khan?

Rashid Khan Arman (راشد خان ارمان‬‎) is one of the greatest and popular Afghan cricketers. He is currently a member of the national cricket team. Rashid Khan’s playing role is a bowler, his batting style is right handed, and his bowling style is legbreak googly. Rashid Khan was born on September 20, 1998 to a Pashtun family of 10 siblings in the village of Nangarhar, eastern Afghanistan. At the height of the Taliban war, Rashid Khan and his family moved to Pakistan where he cemented his love for cricket having spent days playing cricket and idolizing stars such as Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi.
