Mozhdah Jamalzadah is an Afghan singer, songwriter, and talk show host.

Mozhdah Jamalzadah was born in Kabul, on December 7th, 1985. At the height of the Afghan civil war, Jamalzadah and her family moved to Vancouver, Canada. She studied Broadcast Journalism at the British Columbia Institute of Technology and Philosophy and Political Science at the University of British Columbia.

Jamalzadah always harbored a passion for music, and wrote the song “Dokhtare Afghan” (Afghan Girl), about Afghan girls and women. In 2010, she was asked to perform “Dokhtare Afghan” at The White House, for U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama on International Woman’s Day. This made her the first Afghan to ever perform at The White House. Jamalzadah was then asked to host a new television series in Afghanistan called Afghanistan’s Got Talent, a type of game show showcasing all kinds of talent (typically in the entertainment realm). After a stint on Afghanistan’s Got Talent, Jamalzadah and her producers decided to create a talk show program for Jamalzadah to host. The show addressed taboo subjects such as what it means to be a woman in Afghanistan. Jamalzadah still writes and records new music, and has many new projects lined up for the future, showcasing her many talents.

Besides singing, Mozhdah Jamalzadah is also very active in her support of Afghanistan’s national football (soccer) team. She is currently working with the Victory Stadium Foundation, as well as with Afghan government and sports official in raising money for a new $300 million stadium for the national football team.
