Salahuddin Rabbani was born on the 10th of May 1971, into a famous political family – his father was former president Burhanuddin Rabbani. He started working for the Afghan government as the ambassador to Turkey from 2011 to 2012. He then headed the Afghan High Peace Council, following his father’s assassination in 2011. At the same time, Rabbani was selected as the new leader of the Jamiat-e Islami political party. Rabbani is currently the Minister of Foreign Affairs (replaced Ahmad Moqbel Zarar); he was approved by Afghanistan’s Parliament on January 28, 2015, and sworn in on February 1, 2015.
