December 31, 2012: Volleyball tournament ends in Kabul By Sajid Hasan A tournament aimed to select the best women players for Afghanistan’s national women’s volleyball team and for the junior team has ended in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. Afghanistan’s Volleyball Federation Manager, Younus Popalzai told Salam Watandar News Agency that 6 women teams from Kabul and one team from Herat and one team from Baghlan participated in the tournament. According to the report, 100 women players participated in the tournament. On the final day of the tournament, Red Crescent and Sofi Club played against each other, and Red Crescent won the tournament by 3-1 rounds. The team from Herat came in third place. September 22, 2012: Afghanistan out of Twenty20 After two losses in a row, Afghanistan is now out of the 2012 ICC World Twenty20. On Wednesday, they were defeated by India by 23 runs and then on Friday, they lost to England by 116 runs. The Afghan batters fell apart in the game against England. Some analysts commented that it may have been the pressure of playing against top cricketing nations, and some even blamed coach Kabir Khan by saying he didn’t have a plan or strategy going into the game. March 31, 2012: Sadiq’s century leads Afghanistan to victory over the Netherlands After losing to the Netherlands by 9 wickets on Thursday, March 29th, Afghanistan recovered and came back today to defeat them by 5 wickets in Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The 50 overs match was part of the 2011-2013 ICC World Cricket League Championship. Afghanistan’s Karim Sadiq scored a century (100 runs) in the game.
